NEW dark fiction: I sat and stared - unblinking.
I sat and stared - unblinking. My heart beat, my fingers - spread out on my knees - trembled. My throat was dry - tongue cemented to the roof of my mouth. The wall in front of me was blank and blistered, the ceiling sagged, the carpet squelched - but all this was nothing because there was magic in the air. It pulsed and it throbbed as it whiplashed around the room. It sought me out - curved in on me, aping the s-bend of my spine, latching itself across my chest, nibbling obsessively at my throat. Its black density sought me out, knew who I was - had always known who I was. There was a breathless whisper in my ear: "Welcome home."
