His smile phased in and out like the sun struggling to be seen and heard beyond the clouds. They weren't mood smiles. He wasn't in a temperamental playground. They were more memory smiles than anything. A praised moment - gone, a praised moment - gone, a praised...you get the idea. He shrugged. Perhaps that's all life was, a series of smiley moments, a sequence of smiley dots. Some had lots, some had few, most of us had a fair number. Join them up and you have a life lived. But who focuses on the smiles? Not many. It was all failures, disappointments, wrong turns, disasters. He sighed. People are just so full of shit - literally. He got back to his sequence of smiles.
