"Melancholy isn't a bad place to be."
"It isn't?"
"No. It's..."
"Enlighten me."
"No. Really. Enlighten me."
Adam sighed dramatically.
"Is that part of the melancholy thing?"
"Sighing, shrugging. Looking mournfully into the distance. You do it all the time."
"Do not!" Adam's voice rose, which meant he was right.
"Do to." Gabriel smiled.
"Ok. Maybe sometimes."
"Sometimes?" Gabriel kept smiling. Adam was always irritated when Gabriel was right.
"So maybe a lot of the time then. Happy?"
"Happier than you perhaps."
"With your melancholy and all."
"Hey. I make that melancholy work for me."
"Not what I was meaning."
"What were you meaning?"
"Oh you know, doe eyes, romantic unfocused looks, existential sighing."
"Do not!"
"Afraid you do, and boy do your fans lap it up. But then you already know that don't you."
Adam said nothing for what seemed an age, but clearly wasn't. He cast his eyes downward, shrugged, turned his head and stared unseeing into the distance and sighed.
"Fuck, you are good!"
Adam smiled faintly. "Perhaps."
